Until February 19, Worcester Public Schools maintains a fan limit for athletic events.

WPS declared on Facebook on Sunday that only parents, caregivers, and siblings are permitted to attend sporting activities. They imposed the limitation on January 3rd. WPS stated a current COVID-19 positive rating of 25% in Worcester schools as the rationale for the restriction of fans.

“I’m just a little concerned that it’s possible that we could do so safely. Prior to that, based on the leagues that we play currently in the 30 plus surrounding towns that all lifted on Friday,” McCullough said. “Our fans would be able to attend games at those locations, they just wouldn’t be able to attend games at our locations, so to me it’s a little bit of an inconsistent prevention method.”

Molly McCullough, a member of the Worcester school committee, is urging the district to reconsider the restriction because she feels Worcester, like other districts, can safely have fans in attendance.

Because the prohibition comes under day-to-day operations, McCullough said it will be up to the Superintendent to decide when it is lifted.
