Teenagers from Friendly House get free haircuts at Headliners Barbershop in Worcester.

On Tuesday, the sounds of clippers and conversations appeared to symbolize the teamwork occurring in one of the city's communities. Headliners barbershop is just a few blocks from Friendly House's Wall Street location, and the staff wanted the teenagers to meet new individuals.

On Tuesday, around two dozen adolescents from the Friendly House lined up at Headliners Barbershop on Grafton Street for complimentary "fresh" haircuts.

According to the Friendly House's teen program, they have between 30 and 50 youth that come to them for after-school programs on a regular basis.

The Headliners crew wanted to mentor the youngsters who were given the chance to sit in the chair.

"Most of the barbers here come from less-than humble beginnings,” Headliners manager Jonny Moreno said. “We come from projects, shelters, broken homes. So, for us to give back to the kids and show them that there's better things in the future if they just keep striving. It's all it is, you know?"

Merri Marum, Friendly House youth director said "We both have a shared mission, right? The shared mission is to advance the community, to bring everybody together.” She also added, “We're all family here on Grafton Hill and we take care of each other. And we're showing these kids."

Headliners Barbershop & Salon is located at 312 Grafton St.
