Striking nurses enter a second week of protest, Is there an end in sight?

Nurses have been in negotiations with Tenet Healthcare of Texas, owners of St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester for some time now, however, talks have broken down
As if 800 striking nurses wasn’t enough, more St. Vincent’s workers have joined the picket line. United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1445, which represents about 600 patient care assistants, technicians, clerks, housekeeping, and more at St. Vincent, picketed alongside striking nurses. Local 1445 is not on strike, however, its members have appeared alongside striking nurses outside the hospital showing support and understanding.
Worcester Daily News correspondent, Mike Jerry was able to sit down to discuss the matter at hand with Anita Veal and Lisa Jerry, both long time devoted PCAs at Worcesters St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Upon being asked what she would like passer bys to know, Anita Veal responded with “ Today we are standing up not just for us, but also for the community, for the people that come into St. Vincent’s Hospital for our care. And right now they are not getting the proper care because we are understaffed. It’s a continuous thing year round. Everyday we are working understaffed. It’s not good for us and it’s not good for the patients we are taking care of because they are not getting the quality of care they are supposed to get and are used to getting.”and when
These workers want to be there, they would rather be working, they just want to be working in safe conditions for everyone.
When asked why are you still at St Vincent’s Hospital then? Lisa Jerry simply replied with “ I am loyal to St. V’s. I have applied to other places and I could go to other places. It’s unfortunate that loyalty doesn’t count anymore.”
