Robyn Kennedy declares her candidacy for the state Senate seat now held by Harriette Chandler.
WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS – Senator Harriette Chandler is retiring, and Robyn Kennedy, the executive director of the YWCA of Central Massachusetts, has launched her candidacy for the state Senate seat that will be vacated.
Kennedy made the announcement at Elm Park in Worcester on Wednesday. She worked in the state house with then-state Senator Ed Augustus, who is now the city manager, and in former Governor Deval Patrick's office for numerous years.
Kennedy said she wants to carry on Sen. Chandler's legacy while bringing a fresh viewpoint and fighting for women's and families' rights to things like affordable housing and childcare.
“As the next senator from Worcester, I will bring new energy and point of view to build on the legacy of bold leadership this district expects and deserves.” Kennedy said.
Senator Chandler announced her decision not to run for re-election in January.
Last month, Worcester mayor Joseph Petty filed with the state's Office of Campaign and Political Finance for a change of committee as a state senate candidate.
