Some 6.8 million people have received the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine but Tuesday, The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a statement saying they were “recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution.”
Of the 6.8 million people that have received the single-shot vaccine, six have experienced “a rare and severe type of blood clot” within six to 13 days after being vaccinated. “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare.”
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said all six were women aged between 18 to 48.
An emergency meeting of the CDC’s outside advisory committee has been scheduled for Wednesday. “Until that process is complete, we are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution.’
