Middle school custodian Christopher Zayas sentenced to up to 9 years in jail for raping a student

According to the Worcester District Attorney's office, Christopher Zayas, a former Samoset Middle School janitor, was sentenced to up to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old girl over a two-month period.

Officials said the Leominster man pled guilty to three charges of rape and one count of possession of child sex pictures in Worcester Superior Court on Tuesday.

The girl was 14 at the time of the incident, according to prosecutors.

Zayas, 37, was also given a two-year supervised probation term. Zayas was ordered by the Worcester court to keep away from and have no contact with the victim, as well as to stay away from anybody under the age of 16, to complete sex offender treatment, and to register as a sex offender.

Zayas was arrested in March 2019 after a student at Leominster's Samoset Middle School informed police that the former custodian abused her multiple times over several weeks in January and February 2019.
