The North Korean military launched a Hwasong-12 ballistic missile into the sea on Sunday, which the Japanese and South Korean armies assessed achieved a maximum height of 1,200 miles and traveled approximately 500 miles, according to North Korean official media.

What's at stake: According to Reuters, North Korea's military conducted its seventh missile test this month, marking the first time a "nuclear-capable missile" of that size and range has been launched since 2017.
