Former President Donald Trump claimed at a rally in Texas on Saturday that if reelected, he would consider pardoning those accused in the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, adding he would treat them "fairly."
At Saturday's rally in Conroe, Tex.Trump said, "If I run, and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly."
"And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons," he continued. "Because they are being treated so unfairly."
Thousands of Trump supporters descended on the United States Capitol on January 6 in an attempt to block Congress from recognizing the results of the 2020 election, which the former president and his associates erroneously claimed was rigged.
According to a statement released by the Department of Justice at the end of December, more than 725 individuals had been detained in connection with the attack, with 165 pleading guilty to federal offenses and at least 70 persons receiving sentences or having their cases adjudicated.
Trump has been tight-lipped on whether or not he would run for president in 2024.
